Our Pilot in Tanzania

Business for Health Solutions' first focus is on the healthcare supply chain in Tanzania, given the need and opportunity:

SIGNIFICANT NEED FOR HEALTH SYSTEM STRENGTHENING

POLITICAL MOMENTUM TO SHIFT SYSTEMS

STRONG SWISS CONNECTIONS, OTHER SYSTEM SUPPORTS

BHS is starting by addressing challenges along the pharmaceutical and diagnostics supply chain to improve patient access and safety in resource limited settings. As the second largest local pharmaceutical market in East Africa, Tanzania demonstrates a promising business opportunity for the pharmaceutical industry as there is both strong political support for greater private sector engagement as well as efforts to expand health insurance coverage.

BHS is collaborating with local companies including Shelys, the country’s largest local producer of pharmaceuticals; Zenufa, a prominent drug manufacturer; and Bahari Pharmacy, a top distributor. Facilitating remote assistance for these local companies thereby filling gaps in technical expertise, and increasing access to essential health products and services that will improve health outcomes, will ultimately strengthen Tanzania’s health system.
